An HVAC system is built to reach a target temperature and hold it. When it can't hold that temperature, it keeps running, trying to catch up. That's not a sign the unit is failing. Uneven temperatures almost always point to an insulation or air sealing problem. Hot spots usually happen in rooms directly below the attic or at the ends of the house where insulation has thinned out or settled over time. In older DFW homes, the original insulation was often installed to the minimum code at the time, which is well below what's needed to handle a Texas summer.
